Western Sugar Refinery records, 1871-1949.

Contains letter books, technical reports, shift superintendent's reports, and other material related to Claus Spreckels' sugar operations in San Francisco. Formed as the California Sugar Refining Company in 1867 at 8th and Brannon in San Francisco, the refinery processed sugar cane from Hawaii and elsewhere. In 1881, Spreckels expanded the business, building a second refinery on Potrero Point. The new refinery was called Western Sugar Refinery.
